GRF Young Scholars & Young Scholars Abroad Seminar
2015 Term, Second Part


The second part of the inaugural GRF Young Scholars & Young Scholars Abroad joint seminar, which is held with the participation of Turkish undergraduate students from the prominent universities of Turkey and the world, took place on December 25-27, 2015, at the Koç University Istinye Campus. Throughout the seminar, the participants had discussions with GRF Vice-Chairman and President Memduh Karakullukçu, attended interactive presentations delivered by GRF members, and presented a book they had previously read and written a report on in the “Book Discussion Panels”.  

During the sessions led by Mr. Karakullukçu, the discussions were based on the articles and reports written by leading academics and intellectuals of the world, and were held with the active as well as sustained participation of the students.

In addition, GRF Members Akkök Group Board Member Ömer Dinçkök; Ambassador (Ret.) Namık Tan; and Former Senior Advisor to the President of Turkey and Former Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey, Durmuş Yılmaz, gave presentations and shared their assessments on the following topics respectively: “What Do We Expect from the Future?”, “The Importance of ‘Thinking Big’ in Daily Life and Diplomacy”, and “The Central Bank System in Turkey”.

The following books were selected for the “Book Discussion Panels”:

  • “The Globalization of Inequality” – François Bourguignon
  • “Pax Technica: How the Internet of Things May Set Us Free or Lock Us Up” – Philip N. Howard
  • “Energy, Economic Growth and Geopolitical Futures: Eight Long-Range Scenarios” – Evan Hillebrand & Stacy Closson
  • “The Passions and the Interests: Political Arguments for Capitalism Before Its Triumph” - Albert O. Hirschman
