Mr. Kavi was born in Istanbul in 1950. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Civil Engineering as a Civil engineer with master degrees. Following his military service, in 1975, he was engaged in the construction sector untill 1978. He started to work in “Kavi Kablo ve Emaye Bobin Teli San. A.Ş.” in 1978, which was a family company established in 1961. He was the General Manager of the Company between 1989 – 2002. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BEMKA A.Ş. founded in December 2002, as a joint venture company. He is one of the founders of the Turkish Young Businessmen Association in which he used to be the vice president between 1990 – 1994. Mr. Kavi is a member of the Assembly of Istanbul Chamber of Industry since 1987. He was a member of the Board between 1991 – 1993, was elected as the Chairman of the Board in 1993 and at the end of his duty, he kept the same position untill 2001, by being elected for the subsequent four terms. At the same time, he was the Co-Chairman of Turkey – EU Joint Consultative Committee between 1995 – 2000 and 2002 – 2004. Meantime, he is a member of the Committee. He was the member of the Science Board of the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) between 2001 – 2009. He was the Member of Board of Directors of Turk Telekom between the years 2003-2005 at the end of his duty, Turk Telekom was successfully privatized. He was the member of Board of Directors of Akenerji A.S., merging company of Akkok (Turkey) and Cez (Czech Republic between 2001 – 2010. He was the Speaker of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry Assembly between 2001 – 2009. Since 28 February 2009 he is a Member of Istanbul Chamber of Industry Assembly. In January 2008, he was assigned as Chairman of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency Advisory Board until 30 June 2011.
