CEPS-GRF-CSIS Joint Panel
“Russia and the Middle East: Tracking the New World Order”
January 21, 2025
On January 21, 2025, the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and the Global Relations Forum (GİF) convened a panel discussion featuring Prof. Özlem Tür, member of GRF and faculty member at the Middle East Technical University’s Department of International Relations, and Max Bergmann, Director of the CSIS Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program.
The event brought together members of GRF and GRF Community members for a deep dive into the evolving geopolitical landscape.
Hosted by GRF and conducted within the framework of the project “Turkey, Its Asian Pivot, and the West: New Geopolitical Realities in the Making,” led by CSIS and CEPS with support from the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS), the panel examined the rapidly shifting power dynamics in the Middle East and the strategic recalibrations of global actors. A key focus was the potential ramifications of Donald Trump’s re-election as US President on Washington’s Middle East policy, alongside an in-depth assessment of Russia’s expanding influence in the region.
Concluding the discussion, Prof. Özlem Tür and Max Bergmann engaged with participants in a dynamic Q&A session, addressing critical issues related to regional security, diplomacy, and the future of global alliances.
