On April 19, 2024, Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), addressed GRF members at a dinner held in Divan İstanbul Hotel. Dr. Birol delivered a speech entitled “Clean Energy and 2024 Global Elections”, as part of the scope of GRF’s "Geopolitics of Green Transformation and Turkey” Task Force. Stating that 55% of the world’s population will go to the polls in 2024 and therefore the future of clean energy will be greatly affected by the policies set by the victors of this year’s elections, Dr. Birol examined the effects of developments like the Russia-Ukraine war and the US-China competition on global energy security. Following his speech, Dr. Birol answered the participants’ questions.
