On February 19, 2024, Prof. Ayşe Zarakol, Professor of International Relations at Cambridge University & Politics Fellow at Cambridge Emmanuel College, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at a dinner following GRF’s 16th General Assembly, at Divan Istanbul Hotel, Elmadağ. Recipient of the Rahmi M. Koç Medal of Science 2023, Prof. Zarakol gave a speech examining the evolution of East-West and West-South axes in international relations. Stating that the current US-centric ‘Global West’ configuration of political and economic power has started to erode in recent years and that alternate centers of power are currently rising in importance, Prof. Zarakol touched on the increasing intensity of the competition between Western and non-Western systems and detailed potential future scenarios for the international order. Following her speech, Prof. Zarakol answered the participants’ questions.
