GRF Roundtable Series on “Higher Education”

On April 1st, GRF hosted the second meeting of the Roundtable Series on “Higher Education” where Dr. John Smith, current Senior Adviser and former Deputy Secretary General of the European University Association (EUA), addressed GRF members and a group of GRF Community members. Dr. Smith, as a member of the working group for the report, explained the general framework of the report presented to the European Commission entitled “The Knowledge Future: Intelligent Policy Choices for Europe 2050,” further diagnosed problems and issues in the field, and shared policy recommendations. He then expressed that the report underscores the need for an open knowledge system in Europe, increased flexibility and experimentation in research and innovation, and greater continent-wide cooperation for knowledge formation and management. Following the presentation, Dr. Smith answered a wide array of questions addressed by the participants.
