November 25, 2016
On November 25, 2016, Mr. Emile Hokayem, Senior Fellow for Middle East Security at the International Institute for Stretegic Studies (IISS), addressed GRF and GRF Community members at a roundtable held under the Middle East and North Africa Roundtable Meeting Series. During his speech entitled “Middle East Disorder and External Powers: Between Containment and Opportunity,” Mr. Hokayem elaborated on the fault lines of the region, arguing that the Levant owes its importance to the fact that it is where all of these fault lines exist in the most powerful way. He then shared his assessments on the external powers’ involvement in the Syrian crisis, focusing on how different actors’ motives and strategies affect each other’s actions, as well as the overall course of the conflict. Following his speech, Mr. Hokayem answered the participants’ questions.
