On July 18, 2024, GRF organized an online panel meeting entitled ""The 50th Anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation and the Changing Geopolitics of the East Mediterranean", as part of its Security Roundtable Meeting Series. Moderated by GRF President Ambassador (R) Selim Yenel, the panelists, which included Ambassador (R) Ertuğrul Kumcuoğlu; Ambassador (R) Mithat Rende; Ass. Prof. Deniz Tekin Apaydın, Lecturer at Boğaziçi University Faculty of Law; and Assoc. Prof. Tolga Bilener, Lecturer at Galatasaray University Department of International Relations and Director of GSÜ-SAM, addressed GRF and GRF Communities members on the historical and geopolitical dimensions of the Cyprus Peace Operation on its 50th anniversary. Discussing the operation from a security and political perspective, the panelists underlined that Turkish - Greek relations should not be stuck in the past over the Cyprus issue, and shared their views on Turkey’s exclusive economic zone in relation to the competition over natural resources in the East Mediterranean. Following their speeches, the panelists answered the participants’ questions.
