"The New Dynamics of the Global Defense Industry and Their Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Reflections"

On May 29, 2024, Dr. Can Kasapoğlu, Nonresident Senior Fellow at Hudson Institute; Osman Okyay, Kale Group Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board at Defence and Aerospace Industry Manufacturers Association; and Dr. Matthew George, Director of Arms Transfers Programme at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), addressed GRF and GRF Communities members at an online panel meeting moderated by Prof. Evren Balta, Professor of International Relations at Özyeğin University and TÜSİAD Global Politics Forum Academic Coordinator. The panelists examined the current status of the defence industry in an era of rising global insecurity, and discussed the efficacy of increased investment into defence technologies. Stating that modern warfare today depends not just on conventional weapons but also drones and satellite technologies, the panelists stressed the value of digital transformation and elaborated on the development of Turkey’s existing defence capabilities in the current ecosystem. Following their speeches, the panelists answered the participants’ questions under moderation from Prof. Balta.
