The 9th Regional Conference of the Council of Councils (CoC) was held jointly by the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in Berlin on October 30 – November 1, 2016.
As a founding member of the CoC initiative, GRF was represented at the second panel of the conference, entitled “Migration as a Challenge for Regional Security.” At the panel, GRF member Amb. (R) Ümit Pamir shared his assessments on the rationale behind Turkey’s policies on the issue of migration, and offered policy suggestions for addressing the issue as part of the global governance agenda.
In addition to Amb. Pamir’s presentation, GRF Vice-Chairman and President Memduh Karakullukçu was invited to interview Prof. Lars-Hendrik Röller, Chief Economic Advisor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during a special session of the conference on Germany’s G20 term presidency.
In the course of two days and six sessions, the conference addressed numerous issues of global concern, including European regional security, migration, the US elections, and Britain’s exit from the EU.
