On March 31, 2022, Prof. Ufuk Akçiğit, Professor of Economics at University of Chicago, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at a hybrid roundtable meeting at Elmadağ Divan Istanbul Hotel. In his speech on the data-driven state of the Turkish economy, Prof. Akçiğit examined Turkey’s economic performance as well as its record on tech development and academic research. Addressing the role of Turkish universities in contributing to country-wide R&D development and the reasons behind it, Prof. Akçiğit stressed the importance of better business-academic sector integration in order to increase economic efficiency. Following his speech, Prof. Akçiğit answered the participants’ questions.
