GRF Founding Members, Dr. Fatih Birol was unanimously re-elected as Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Dr. Fatih Birol is one of the founding members of GRF and Co-Chair of GRF’s Energy Task Force that published the report entitled “Turkish Energy Strategy in the 21st Century” in 2013.

The IEA was founded in response to the 1973-1974 oil crisis and its role has evolved and expanded over time in order to provide international governance faced with issues such as uncertainties on the global energy market, European energy security issues, and the substantial growth in energy demand by emerging markets. Today, the IEA is one of the key institutions of the global dialogue on energy, working with member and non-member countries on energy security, economic development, and environmental awareness; providing a mechanism for coordinating emergency response to oil market disruptions as well as providing authoritative statistics, analysis and recommendations to member states.
