June 18, 2017
US Secretary of Energy (F) and Nobel Laureate in Physics, Dr. Steven Chu addressed GRF and GRF Community Members at a dinner on June 18, 2017. In his presentation, Dr. Chu underlined that the climate change is taking effect on a much faster pace than predicted by previous models. He then elaborated on renewable energy’s potential as a tool to curb the global warming. As he highlighted that technological developments are making renewables more efficient and competitive, Dr. Chu argued that renewables need not only to match fossil fuel prices but become much cheaper, if they are to replace the current means of energy production. Finally, Dr. Chu noted that renewable energy should be supplemented by other energy sources such as nuclear energy for a carbon emission free future. Following his speech, Dr. Chu received a number of questions from the participants.
