On October 14, 2022, Ambassador Torbjörn Sohlström, Head of Sweden Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ EU Department, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online meeting. In his speech detailing Turkey-Sweden relations in light of Sweden’s upcoming EU presidency, Ambassador Sohlström examined Sweden’s NATO membership process following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, its bilateral relations with Turkey, and the EU’s foreign policy priorities. Underlining Sweden’s supportive stance on reducing the EU’s energy independence on Russia, Ambassador Sohlström stated that Sweden is ready to negotiate with Turkey in order to smooth out the issues affecting its NATO membership. Following his speech, Ambassador Sohlström answered the participants’ questions.
