June 8, 2020
On June 8, 2020, Prof. Paul Farmer, Kolokotrones University Professor and Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online meeting. In his speech entitled “Pandemic Time: From Ebola to COVID”, Prof. Farmer examined the sociological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and contrasted the governmental and social responses with those from previous pandemics. Prof. Farmer underlined that the reason COVID-19 has been able to spread so effectively in certain countries like the US is due to a number of underlying social problems, like income inequality and issues with the healthcare systems. Following his speech, Prof. Farmer answered the participants’ questions.
