On January 18, 2019, Mr. Nick Butler, Founding Chairman of the King’s College Policy Institute, Senior Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister (F) & FT Energy Commentator, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at a luncheon. In his speech detailing the changes in global energy production and consumption, Mr. Butler examined these changes through the prism of geography, technology and economy. Stating that the world has entered an “age of plenty” with regards to energy production, Mr. Butler also noted that climate change will have a big impact on the water and agricultural resources of Central and Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Butler situated Turkey as a key player between mass migration triggered by climate change and China’s efforts to expand its electrical grid towards Europe. Following his speech, Mr. Butler answered the participants’ questions.
