Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), addressed GRF and GRF community members at a roundtable meeting on February 2, 2018. Ambassador Üzümcü started his presentation by providing a historic account of the development of chemical weapons and how this later triggered a process dedicated to their prohibition. He then elaborated on the OPCW’s role and mission as well as the mechanisms put in place for the destruction of chemical weapons. Finally, Ambassador Üzümcü explained the OPCW’s role in Syria and answered the participants’ questions.
