On June 7, 2023, George Perkovich, Vice President for Studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, addressed GRF members and GRF community members at a dinner in Divan Hotel, Elmadağ.
In the meeting titled “Nuclear Disarmament Policy,” Perkovich discussed the future of the US nuclear disarmament policy and the US-Iran bilateral relations in light of current political developments in the international system. Under the current regional dynamics, Perkovich underlined that any change in the US sanctions program and policies against Iran is not expected.
He stated that countries’ supportive policies for nuclear weapons’ capacities cause a security dilemma between nations. In this vein, Perkovich pointed out that this situation increases the general interest of countries in investing in nuclear programs under their defense policies.
Following his speech, Perkovich answered the participants’ questions.
