On October 30, 2017, Mr. Jan Nahum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hexagon Consulting and Hexagon Solid Waste, addressed GRF and GRF community members at a roundtable meeting. In his speech, Mr. Nahum shared his experiences in the automotive sector and elaborated on the lessons that should be drawn from Turkey’s experiences with the automotive industry. He then gave a detailed account of how the industry developed in Turkey. Mr. Nahum noted that the automotive industry has a crucial role for Turkey to escape the middle income trap. Mr. Nahum argued that Turkey should focus on designating an unmet demand within the global automotive market and design a product to serve this need. This product should be in line with Turkey’s existing manufacturing capabilities, he added, suggesting such a strategy would allow Turkey to gain a competitive advantage within the industry. Following his speech, Mr. Nahum answered the participants’ questions.
