On October 20, 2021, Prof. Lord Robert Skidelsky, Economist and Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online meeting. In his speech, Prof. Skidelsky assessed the effects of the internet and internet technologies on freedom of thought. Evaluating different countries’ attempts at regulating the internet and sometimes limiting the freedoms of their citizenry through the use of internet technologies, Prof. Skidelsky examined the concept of ’surveillance capital’ and deemed it to be one of the most impactful by-products of our modern age. Following his speech, Prof. Skidelsky answered the participants’ questions.
