Roundtable Meeting with
Dr. Amanda Sloat and Dr. Constanze Stelzenmüller,
Robert Bosch Senior Fellows at the Brookings Institution

On October 16, 2018, Dr. Amanda Sloat and Dr. Constanze Stelzenmüller, Robert Bosch Senior Fellows at the Brookings Institution, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at a roundtable meeting. Dr. Stelzenmüller shared her insights on the state of the EU, whereas Dr. Sloat discussed the future of EU-Turkey relations. The speakers also shared their assessments on the ongoing disagreements that are straining the relationship, as well as its potential for change. Focusing on the EU’s internal debates, Dr. Stelzenmüller touched on the rise of illiberalism and populism in Europe, and stressed the need for the EU to take an active stand against these forces. Meanwhile, Dr. Sloat elaborated on the current grievances between the US and Turkey, and argued for the importance of continued engagement between the NATO allies. Following their remarks, Dr. Stelzenmüller and Dr. Sloat answered the participants’ questions.
