Richard McGregor,

On November 1, 2021, Richard McGregor, Lowy Institute Senior Fellow for East Asia, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online meeting. In his speech entitled "US-China Relations and Chinese Domestic Politics", Mr. McGregor shared with the participants the internal structure of the Chinese government and assessed the effects of this unique structure on China’s foreign policy. Examining the dynamics of US-China commercial and political competition, Mr. McGregor listed the recent turning points in the relationship and stressed that while China is more politically more confident than ever, its economic problems might create future instability. Following his speech, Mr. McGregor answered the participants’ questions.
