Global Relations Forum and Ankara Policy Center Panel Meeting
“Latest Developments in South Caucasus”
March 10, 2023
On March 10, 2023, Richard Giragosian, Director of the Regional Studies Center in Armenia, Zaur Shiriyev, Member of the Royal Institute of International Relations, and Journalist Thomas de Waal, Senior Researcher at Carnegie Europe, addressed GRF, GRF Community and Ankara Policy Center members at a panel entitled “Latest Developments in South Caucasus” at an online meeting.
The panel evaluated the effect of the Russia-Ukraine war on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and possible conflict resolutions between Azerbaijan and Armenia moderated by GRF Member and Kadir Has University’s Professor of International Relations Mitat Celikpala.
Speakers argued that a politically weakened Russian presence in the region might have direct reflections on possible peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which could lead to the EU’s strengthened role in its mediation position in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The panelists then discussed which policies the sides should prioritize to build a sustainable peace agreement. Following their speeches, the panelists answered the participants’ questions.
