On December 21, 2018, Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), addressed GRF and GRF Community members at a meeting. Examining the energy geopolitics of the world and the effects of recent developments on Turkey, Dr. Birol stated that China and India have surpassed Western countries in terms of energy consumption. Dr. Birol explained that the US’ growing oil independence and its competition with Russia over natural gas will lead to dramatic shifts in the political geography of the Middle East. Following his speech, Dr. Birol answered the participants’ questions.
